Lace Closure Care: Washing, Detangling & Maintenance

Maintaining Your Brazilian Lace Closure and Other Hair Extensions - Her Hair Company

A lace closure needs two kinds of care at the same time: care for the human hair and care for the lace or attachment area. Aggressive brushing, heavy buildup and excessive tension can shorten the life of the piece or make the installation less comfortable.

Detangle without pulling on the lace

Work from the ends upward in small sections. When you reach the area near the closure base, support the hair so you are not transferring the full force of detangling to the lace, knots or installation.

Wash based on buildup and the installation

There is no universal rule that every closure must be washed weekly or every two weeks. The right routine depends on how the closure is installed, how much product you use and the care instructions for the exact hair and adhesive or attachment method.

Avoid rough scrubbing around the lace. If adhesive is part of the installation, use removal and cleaning methods intended for that system rather than pulling the closure free.

Dry the hair and foundation thoroughly

After cleansing an installed closure, make sure the hair and the foundation underneath are properly dried. Do not leave the base persistently damp after washing.

Limit heavy product around the part

Too much oil, gel, spray or styling product around the lace can create buildup and make the part look stiff. Use only what the hairstyle needs and clean the area when buildup becomes visible.

Watch tension and comfort

A closure should not need painful tension to stay secure. Persistent pulling, soreness or irritation means the installation should be checked and adjusted or removed as appropriate.

Protect the style without making lifespan promises

Human hair and lace are wearable materials, and their usable life varies with product construction, installation, styling, chemical services and maintenance. Avoid relying on blanket claims that every closure will last a fixed number of months.
