Human hair bundles need regular care, but there is no universal rule that every bundle should be washed on the same schedule. How often you clean the hair depends on whether it is installed, how much product is used, activity level and visible buildup.
Detangle before washing
Work in small sections from the ends upward before introducing water. Support the weft while detangling so you are not pulling directly on the stitching or attachment area.
Wash when the hair needs it
Use a cleansing routine appropriate for human hair extensions and the installation. Avoid rough rubbing, twisting or piling the hair together, which can create unnecessary tangles.
For an installed sew-in, the scalp, extensions and braided foundation all need appropriate cleansing and thorough drying. Loose bundles can be handled separately before installation or between uses.
Condition the lengths and ends
Apply conditioner where the hair needs slip and softness, usually through the mid-lengths and ends. Avoid assuming that more product always improves the hair; heavy buildup can make bundles look dull or weigh down waves and curls.
Rinse thoroughly
Residual shampoo or conditioner can leave the hair heavy or difficult to style. Rinse until the hair feels clean and the product has been removed.
Dry completely
Gently squeeze or blot excess water rather than aggressively rubbing the hair with a towel. Air drying is a low-heat option for loose bundles. If heat drying is needed and the product allows it, use controlled temperature rather than maximum heat.
Installed bundles and the foundation underneath should be dried thoroughly after washing; do not leave the base persistently damp.
Use heat intentionally
Human hair bundles can often be heat styled when the specific product allows it, but repeated high heat can dry or weaken the hair. Use heat protectant, moderate temperature and fewer passes.
Store loose bundles clean and dry
If bundles are not installed, detangle them and make sure they are completely dry before storage. Keep them arranged so the lengths are not crushed or forced into knots.
How long should bundles last?
There is no reliable fixed lifespan for every bundle. Usable life depends on the product, installation, coloring or bleaching, heat exposure, friction and maintenance. Replace hair when the weft or strands are too damaged to maintain safely or achieve the intended style.
